Wood pellet producers in Poland — who is behind the brand on the bag

The bag carries a brand. Who made it — often not. This article collects what we could establish first-hand (producers' websites, the Polish Pellet Council's membership notices, ENplus interviews) about the companies behind the pellets sold in Poland. First, though, one skill that is more useful than any list.

How to read an ENplus number

The ENplus seal on a bag consists of the logo, an identification number (country code + three digits) and the class designation. The number belongs to the company, not the product — and that is the key: the ENplus standard certifies producers and traders separately, and a trader who owns the bag design must hold its own certificate. A bag with a trader's number is perfectly fine — but it doesn't tell you in which sawmill the pellets were made.

How to check: enter the number in the register at enplus-pellets.eu. The register shows the company, country, certificate type and validity. We do this below for every number we quote — and you should do it before buying.

Each of these has its own profile in the guide — Stelmet, IKEA, both Golds, Beskidy and OBI's Beskid — with a list of sources. Tartak Obrzycko has no profile yet: we know what its distributor (Opałownia) states: ENplus A1 certificate no. PL 054, 6 mm diameter, moisture ≤ 10%, ash ≤ 0.7%, calorific value 17–18 MJ/kg, 975 kg pallet. We publish no price list, because the distributor itself shows the price as "—" and sales go by phone. If you're looking for "Tartak Obrzycko price list" — the shortest route is a call to the sawmill and converting the quoted price to a tonne.

Two notes on the table. First, "largest" is by producers' own statements, not independent measurement: Stelmet states 144,000 t, the report from the launch of IKEA's line — 60,000 t a year at Stalowa Wola and about 130,000 t including Resko and Wielbark. Second, this is a list of companies whose data we checked while writing brand profiles, not a ranking and not a complete list of Polish producers — there are dozens.

This is not a division into "better" and "worse". An ENplus-certified trader is subject to a supply-chain audit, and a good importer can deliver stable quality for years. The difference is in what you check: with a producer — the plant and its number; with a trader — the trader's number and, where possible, information about the origin of the batch.

The price table also lists DPP Holzpellet, Igła, Let's Pellet, Granulita, Task, Timbory, Pellrum, Rezult (Castorama), Lokals and Dremus, among others. For these we show class and certificate exactly as the shop declares them on the product page — we haven't traced the producer yet. Profiles are added in order of reader interest.

What this means for a buyer

1. Number, not name. Two "Gold" brands from two provinces are the best proof that a name settles nothing.
2. Producer or trader — check in the register, then expect the appropriate information.
3. Price per tonne. Even the best producer doesn't exempt you from converting the pallet price — for the same sawmill, different distributors pack 975, 990 and 1050 kg.
