How much does a pallet of wood pellets weigh? 975, 990, 1005 or 1050 kg

In short: a pallet of pellets is not a unit of measure. In Polish shops "a pallet" most often means 975 kg, but it can also be 990 kg, 1005 kg or 1050 kg, and half-pallets under 500 kg exist too. Whoever compares "pallet prices" without checking the weight is comparing different quantities of goods — and that is exactly how you can lose several hundred złoty without choosing dearer pellets at all.

What a pallet really weighs — from our catalogue

We track offers from a dozen or so Polish shops and, for each one, establish the pack weight by hand from the real product page. These variants currently occur in our catalogue:

The bagging standard is the 15 kg bag — hence those characteristic "unround" weights: 65 × 15 = 975, 66 × 15 = 990, 67 × 15 = 1005, 70 × 15 = 1050. Shops usually give the number of bags or the total mass; rarely both at once.

This table is alive: the 1005 kg variant appeared in it in September 2026, when one tracked offer changed its description from "975 kg" to "1005 kg" — we describe it in the brand profile. Same shop, same product, different mass; the price per tonne moved by 3% without the sticker price changing.

Add to that a dozen or two kilograms for the wooden pallet itself and the film — but you pay for pellets, so it's the fuel mass that counts, and that is what we quote.

Why it matters for the price

A simple example using the real weights from the table above. Two "pallet" offers at 2,100 zł:

• a 975 kg pallet: 2,100 ÷ 975 × 1000 = 2,154 zł/t
• a 1050 kg pallet: 2,100 ÷ 1050 × 1000 = 2,000 zł/t

The same price on the label, a 154 zł/t difference — on a seasonal purchase of 4 tonnes that is over 600 zł. It works the other way too: an offer 100 zł dearer can be cheaper in reality if the pallet is heavier.

That is why in the price table we convert every offer to złoty per tonne — the only column worth comparing. The pack weight is shown beside every offer, because without it the conversion would be unverifiable.

Practical consequences of pallet weight

Transport and unloading. A tonne on a pallet is not a load you move by hand. A truck with a tail-lift gets it down to ground level — but from the kerb to the garage the pallet travels on your pallet truck or goes bag by bag. 65–70 bags of 15 kg is a real half-hour of carrying.

Space. A standard pallet takes about 1 m² of floor and 160–180 cm of height. Where and how to keep it so the pellets don't get damp is covered in the storage article.

Demand. A typical house burns 3–6 tonnes a season, i.e. 3–6 pallets depending on the weight variant. You'll work it out more precisely in the calculator — and the "how many pallets do I need" sum only becomes simple once you know what your pallet weighs.

What to watch for in offers

1. A "pallet" with no stated weight. It happens. Without the mass you can't compute zł/t — ask before buying, or compare an offer that states the weight.
2. Number of bags instead of mass. Just multiply by the bag weight — but check the bag really is 15 kg; the standard is strong, but not iron.
3. A "from" price on a pallet. Common on marketplaces — the final amount can depend on the delivery address. A price you can't see before entering your details is no use for comparison.

Summary

Remember one thing: ask not "how much is a pallet" but "how much is a tonne". Weight differences between pallets are of exactly the same order as price differences between shops — ignore the first and you distort the second.
